a couple of good articles

School’s keeping me crazy busy and probably will continue doing so until finals are over next week, so until then here are a couple of good, but scary articles to keep you entertained (and, hopefully, at least somewhat outraged):

The Top 10 Signs of the Impending U.S. Police State: http://www.alternet.org/rights/36553

  1. -and those are just the glaring examples.

I’ve been spending the better part of the past six months researching and writing about the foster care system in America and the sudden push to hurry through adoptions. I started with the assumption that it was a feminist issue but after while, realised it was a fear/control/class war issue to keep the poor in line. It’s almost impossible to read some of that stuff and not draw parallels to the dirty war in Argentina where children were taken and given to government supporters. What’s happening here is not quite as blatant, but when you read some of the justifications for removing children from homes, it becomes clear that something other than the “best interests” of the youngsters is at play.

The easiest way to get people to behave in a docile manner and accept the police state is to threaten taking their children. As a parent, I live in continual fear of how this or that “might look” regardless of actual reality. Going to a protest, being arrested could very well result in a loss of custody, given the leanings of a particular judge or social worker’s reccommendation.

I don’t know about you, but I’m very aware of how the things I say might be interpreted. Not a very good sign for the Second Amendment.
